Collecting Creative Specimens along my Field Study of a Life.

I have been thinking about you as the viewer. How I can share a glimpse into my creative explorations in the hopes that it encourages you to try something new. I want it to be a, “Ya know, I think I would like to have a coffee with this person vibe.” Maybe you feel that way, maybe not and that’s quite alright.

For me, when I visit a website that takes me on a journey, and I feel transported for a minute or two, that is good stuff. Wandering through someone else’s imagination…… that is my hope for here and for you.

My ideas are forming, if you feel a kinship, I’d love to hear your wandering thoughts and ideas.

As I think about my creative life, I have come to realize it is a field study of sorts. It is ever-evolving, even though I have a terrible time with being here when I want to be there. I still haven’t figured out where there is and that is simply because I am here….I digress. A topic for a different blog post.

I collect bits of paper and seed pods, sticks and pencils, scraps of fabric, and rocks. This Thanksgiving, I wanted to honor to the people, places, and things in my life that I am grateful for. I set the table, for our small gathering, with tiny trinkets from the earth, sea, people who have passed or are in struggle, the things I would like to cultivate more of and life adventures. I was lucky enough to be gifted my Grandmother’s china. It couldn’t be a more perfect pattern, I believe she knew exactly who would cherish her treasures in the manner she so desired, she was funny that way.

There is some pottery from my dearest cousin, a box my father made me for my last birthday, gifts from the earth and sea. All resting on a beautiful handmade tablecloth I found at a garage sale.

I encourage you to decorate this holiday season with treasures from your life’s field study. It filled me with a sense of gratitude, perfect for the day and season ahead. I am fairly certain no one really paid attention to the decorations on the table, and my point here is… Do it anyway, live your field study. Immerse yourself in the things that give your soul nourishment.
