Exploring New Ideas and New Work

As I mentioned in a recent post, I have been pushing myself to explore new thoughts, techniques, and ideas. The hope is to push myself out of my limiting beliefs into new possibilities, especially in my metalwork and paintings. This canvas has been a big push out of my comfort zone. I know I want more depth and texture in my work, I know I want to be there when I am here so to speak. The how is to jump in and do. Be unabashedly, unapologetically, unafraid. Explore. Push through the limiting beliefs that creep in. Go further. I often become attached to a section of a painting because it has given me cause to paint it and it wants to shine, just like we do, but if we push through a little more something extraordinary happens. (it can epically fail too, but today’s musing is a success post). This painting isn’t quite finished, it still needs a little exploration, but I can see its completion. The photos at the end of the carousel are how it began, well it truly began as something else and just keeps morphing as will my journey as an artist and human. My questions always fuel my inspiration. What if I do this, where will this path lead? Inspiration can definitely lead you off a cliff, but sometimes it sure is fun to follow, even if the fall is a little scary and leads to a broken bone. Let’s just hope its a leg and not an arm. I will need those for painting.
