Love Letter

I love snail mail. The act of sending little snippets of time and love through the mail. To me a piece of mail is almost as good as traveling, well okay it is a far cry from traveling, but it lends itself to daydreaming about people and far-off places.

There is something so romantic and sentimental about sending and receiving mail. Through all of my moves around this country, I have learned to shed my belongings. I was Marie Kondo-ed from an early age. Because you will have to pack those belongings, my motto became “travel light”. I didn’t actually know what I was learning at the time and have a few more belongings as an adult than I did growing up, but I am definitely not attached to too many things. The things I am attached to are a stuffed horse from my father, a gift for my 10th birthday, and a box full of notes and letters from people I have met across the country, my beloved Grandmother and cousin. We wrote back and forth a fair bit as I was growing up. Those notes are like hugs dressed up in an envelope. As an adult, I have notes from my niece who would doodle random bits of art, then ask her mom to mail them to me. They are always a welcomed surprise.

My latest collection of surface pattern designs is an ode to my Grandmother. I incorporated her handwriting as the backdrop. Below is a small collection of notecards, perfect for saying hello, I am thinking about you.

I hope you find a little love in your mailbox.
